The Joy of Accumulating Animals…
I’ve been accumulating animals over the past week. Just 8 days ago I got my first shipment of chicks, followed by a foster dog, a load of turkeys, and two barn cats. The chicks are already getting so big!
Playing Farmer
Summer 2012 I find myself living and farming just outside of Ann Arbor, MI. I’ve been working here at Brines Farm, Dexter since I returned from Enlgand last fall; my boss Shannon Brines runs a winter CSA. What does that mean? Well, CSA stands for “community supported agriculture”. It basically means that the […]
SouthWest England part II
Part 2: Cornwall ice cream home-stay and Cornish coastal driving We continued our trip into Cornwall, the farthest south west corner of England. You can probably figure out for yourself that according my my New England analogy, Cornwall is Maine–coastal villages, funny accents, pasties instead of lobsters, and a lot of nothing inland. We began […]
Overdue England Sept. 2011
Most of you probably were following my summer biostation blog: umbsgarden.wordpress.com, so you probably know I spent the summer working up at the U of M biostation in Pellston Michigan, growing food and inspiring people to eat kohlrabi, enjoy weeding, and the like. But that’s another story from another website. Following the summer session up […]
Phytophthora infestans!
24 July 2009 — Yesterday when Jenn did a final walk around of the farm, everthing looked healthy and in order. Sunday News
28 June 2009 This morning was the strawberry festival at one of the bigger farms in the area. We went early to pick (aka eat) for a while, then wandered around to enjoy the feeling of a summer fair: old tractors to gawk at, greenhouses full of fresh-smelling flowers, hippies and their hippie children, horse-drawn […]
I spent most of this morning on monotonous, difficult, and tiresome tasks. Added to that I wasn’t very enthusiastic about working today anyways… I am much more in the mood to curl up with a book today. Then about half-way through the morning, when I was feeling totally miserable and sorry for myself, I realized […]
A Day in the Life
Today was Brittany’s (one of the other interns) birthday. It was a little razy because we also had market this afternoon… but it was really fun and probably the first real bonding I felt with the other interns! Also I baked a cake which didn’t come out horribly and there was only one big moment […]
In Vermont
I have arrived at my new home in Vermont!!!! As you saw in the pictures, I spent a few days in Boston with my friend Maggie before coming here. We went to the Arnold Arboretum and wandered around downtown and ate a lot of yummy chinesse food at a yummy brunch place and generally had […]
Quick update
Hey y’all! I will write more later but just want to make a quick update for now. I am home right now but packing (trying to fit everything into a backpacking backpack is harder than I’d thought) to head out to Vermont! My stay at home has been lovely…. I’ve been enjoying the leaves coming […]
