Quick update
Hey y’all!
I will write more later but just want to make a quick update for now.
I am home right now but packing (trying to fit everything into a backpacking backpack is harder than I’d thought) to head out to Vermont! My stay at home has been lovely…. I’ve been enjoying the leaves coming out and the spring wildflowers and all the other joys of a Michigan summer, although I’m sure not as much as people who’ve been here all winter. I’ve spent most of my time riding horses, helping out in the orchards, and helping out with my Dad’s veggie patch at home. Today I got to help my dad fell a tree back by the backside of the house, which was super exciting!
Basically, Statia was a good experience and a lot of fun for the first few months, but as you may have noticed in that I haven’t posted in a while, it became pretty monotonous and hot and dry… basically, it is so good to be back in a good old northern hardwood forest! By the time I was leaving Statia it was the dry-season, which means all of the plants were very thirsty and a lot of them were dying. It’s kind of depressing to be working at a botanical garden with no plants growing cause there hasn’t been any rain and we didn’t always have enough water to water them!
So, now I’m VERY excited to be heading out to Vermont for the summer to work on a farm…. they have lots of poultry but also just about anything else you could think of. I thin I’ll learn a lot this summer and have a lot of fun too. I will be sure to update more often once I get out there and have more interesting stuff to write about!
I hope you all are doing good and sorry for the long delays between blog entries….
I will work on getting some more pictures up whenever I have time…
