I am such a real person with a real domain name website….

News: I am house-sitting right now for the guy who does computer tech at the office, which means I am staying in the highest house on the Quill above town with a BEAUTIFUL view of all the lights and the northern hills and the oil tankers in the ocean.  It’s just nice anyways to have a real house to be staying in and personal space and hot showers and all that good stuff.  And to play with the two big enthusiastic and not smelly dogs.

As for work, I am doing lots with my butterflly survey which is great — just hiking a lot with some of the volunteers and doing REAL SCIENCE! No data yet, but Í’ve already recorded 3 species of butterfly not known to be on the island!

Diving is going well… I saw: an OCTOPUS! and a SEA HORSE! They were both sooooo amazing. And the best this ever I saw wasn’t even diving but hiking on the beach with my friend Kate we were looking for blue beads which is kinda like the island fever ya know but suddenly I saw this wierd green slimy moving thing and it was a tiny tiny green octopus crawling along just in the surf line. It was like the size of my hand, smaller probably. And it looked kinda green and stringy like filamentous green algae that would be along the intertidal zone…. SO cool how is walked across the rocks with it’s little tentacles I can’t even really describe the amazingness.

In sadder news my two best friends on the island Maggie and Kate have both left, and of the volunteer group here right now, the people who I am most close with are all leaving in a week and a half. New people coming when they leave…. maybe they will be my new friends.

I have a rough future plan I’m sure everyone is happy to hear about — when I get back from this place in May I think I’m (unless something comes up) gonna go out to Vermont and work on the farm I worked on last year for just a month — get some more experience and knowledge, then do something for the fall maybe travel or keep working there until home and family for Thanksgiving and maybe Christmas and then early 2010 I want to do a bit of a Europe trip and probably hike the Camino del Santiago in France and Spain and visit the Netherlands and help with lambing and sheep shearing there and maybe even inbetween travel across Switzerland helping as a shephard like walk across the whole thing with a flock of sheep…. if it’s even possible….. wouldn’t that be amazing????? And return to the states in the spring in time to hopefully work at the biostation for summer! So that’s my life in a nutshell!

Pictures hopefully coming someday! Now that I can actually put them on this thing I guess….

  1. Glad you like the website! See you this summer….
